Nicky Anstey is one very busy lady…a fully experienced and qualified nutritionist, weaning consultant, Neuro-Linguistic Programming practitioner (NLP) and hypnotherapist, Nicky juggles her many varied roles and family life with great success.
Working on the person as a whole holistically from the inside out allows Nicky to tackle a client’s diet, physical issues and often the mental and emotional issues underpinning their problems. Nicky’s business has several strands to it…for example weaning babies through taste sessions so parents can go from ‘panic to calm’. From the preschoolers to school children, her work on analyzing school meals and making them ‘balanced’ means late nights and tight deadlines to deliver such special diets.
When Nicky became a qualified Registered Nutritionist in 1997 she had already experienced a varied career since her own school days; from running a B&B to ‘commuting all over the country at the drop of a hat.’ Describing herself as ‘driven rather than a workaholic’ Nicky’s career path changed direction during a run of hospital operations which gave her ‘time to think’; and in 2004 Nicky took the brave step and became self employed as a freelance nutritionist. The past decade has seen Nicky’s areas of expertise grow from nutrition to therapeutic massage; NLP and hypnotherapy. Coaching clients to lose weight, stop smoking, fall pregnant and untie themselves from their pasts; for example ‘someone looking to lose weight may have had a belief set when they were a child such as an aunt Mildred who said to them ‘’I love you because you’re cute, chubby and cuddly’’ so deep in the client’s unconscious it feels it needs to keep you a bit chunkier than you need and wish to be. ‘Working on a timeline from the client’s childhood in this case, but often before, we cut this memory from the past and replace it with a more positive thought. I rid the client of their limiting beliefs and rest the mind which frees them…’
It’s clear that Nicky’s clients gain a great deal from her but what does Nicky gain? ‘Establishing a business from which people get numerous benefits provides me with satisfaction. People leave my house happy, healthy and positive; the variety of work is great too; you just don’t know who’ll walk through your door’. The regular eureka moments she has keep Nicky both motivated and enthusiastic about her work; for example helping a lady re-programme her view on being a mother to enable her to fall pregnant.
Nicky clearly loves her work; ‘I couldn’t go back to working for someone else, I enjoy being in control of my diary. I have the time to learn too which allows me to learn new skills to implement and thus keep my business fresh. I enjoy the feedback from my clients which makes the long hours worth it. Seeing their eyes light up when they leave more emotionally and mentally healthy and balanced is wonderful.’
So if Nicky could have one famous person as a client in her clinic who would it be? ‘Stephen fry! He’s an amazing man; really interesting and he’d make a fascinating client’.
Well whether Stephen Fry becomes a client or not, what does the future hold for Nicky’s business?
‘The plan is to consolidate all strands of the business and market them sufficiently through a new website and to continue using social networking sites, Doctor referrals and local business groups such as Wine. I’m very excited as I’m also working on a few books; weaning and NLP which I look forward to being published soon.’
Does Nicky have any advice for other women in business?
‘Enjoy what you do and learn to delegate. Don’t do everything yourself – i.e. book keeping, admin related to advertising – be strict with your time as this will give you the time to focus on where you want your business to go; if you are so busy doing what you do then there’s no time left to promote it!’
If you need some help detaching yourself from old limiting beliefs to allow you to reach a future goal then I don’t know a better person to call on than Nicky Anstey.
